GENERAL PREMISE – THE CRAFT LAB PROJECT (contest of reference and aims)
Many European regions have long traditions and culture of crafts. Together with the safeguard of the cultural heritage and arts, both in the Italian and Greek territory, it is necessary to preserve the professional activities linked to the culture of the traditional craft, and boost the future development of cultural and creative industries, a field having a high potential of growth in the future.
Starting from this base, the CRAFT LAB project aims at offering the opportunity to a selection of young people / artists / craftsmen / designers to combine traditional and innovative skills with entrepreneurial capacities, acquiring the tools to improve their professional life and, as a consequence, to act as example for their colleagues, through the start of innovative residences oriented to the recovery of the old artisanal professions for the manufacture of ceramics, mosaic and fabrics, aiming at making design and artistic craft an asset of development and economic growth of the territories involved.
The final result foresees 6 new business start-up, the capitalization of the regional policy within the craft and commercial sector, and a supporting measures to sustain the economic and commercial sustainability of this kind of products. The innovative dimension is to create common cross border identity that will be transferred into a single brand, to be promoted on the wider European and world market.
Innovative laboratories will be realized aiming at recovering old crafts / techniques in the field of the manufacture of ceramics and terracotta, innovative mosaic and fabric, realizing a synergic mix of arts and crafts aiming at revitalizing the artisanal sector thanks to the introduction of new technologies, promoting youth entrepreneurship and the opportunities of work in the field.
